I have several personal goals I would like to accomplish while attending a university in 2018. My first personal goal is to obtain a higher degree to advance my career. The degree I would like to achieve is a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a Nurse Executive Leader Concentration. I have been working in a hospital as a staff nurse for over 16 years and I feel I am ready to advance my career and take on new challenges. The MSN degree that I am seeking is directly related to my current job and a higher level of education would allow me to build upon my current knowledge and further my skills in a nurse leadership role. The hospital I work for has experienced significant growth over the past few years since it’s merger with another hospital and by furthering my education, I can work towards an opportunity to advance my career within the organization. I have a passion for nursing and would ultimately like to work in a nursing leadership role such as a manager or a director within my field.

With arduous work and dedication, I have achieved a bachelor’s of science in nursing (BSN) degree as a first step in my goal of attaining a master’s degree in nursing. I currently work full-time while raising a family and feel that the online MSN program will provide me with the flexibility I need to achieve a higher degree. I believe that the probability of reaching my goals are high and feel that I will succeed because of my great support system. At the university, I have the support of a senior student services coordinator to assist me throughout the program as well as the director of the online MSN program. I also have the support of my manager at my place of work who is willing to act as a mentor. My husband has been a great supporter since the beginning of my nursing career and continues to provide me with great support in my home life.

Just as I have successfully completed my BSN degree, I feel I will be able to successfully achieve my MSN degree. With challenging work and dedication in furthering my education, I also hope to serve as a role model to my two children. Serving as a role model would benefit them to work just as hard towards their educational goals. I come from a large Hispanic family with many nieces and nephews. My hope is to serve as their role model as well. Achieving my goal as a nurse leader would not only allow me to serve as a role model, but help with my goal of providing excellent care to patients. In my organization, excellence means having the ability of providing the best high-quality and patient-centered care. My final personal goal is to be acknowledged for the contributions and the differences I will be able to make in my organization because of furthering my education and obtaining a MSN degree. I hope that by holding a key position, I will be able to move my organization forward to positively impacting patient outcomes. I thank you in advance for the offering of your support.
