Monthly Meeting

As of December 2009, the Monthly Meeting will be in a different location at the Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist (CCUU).

The Monthly Meeting will be held at the Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist (CCUU) at 1025 N. Smith Street in Palatine until further notice. Meetings will no longer be held at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest in Arlington Heights. The location may change so please continute to check this site. Members can also check ChiMe, the Chicago Mensa Meetup site, and/or can sign up for the Event email list to get regular emails about upcoming events, including any last minute changes. Directions and the schedule of upcoming meetings are below.

Our Monthly Meetings start with a business meeting from 5:00-6:00 PM, which the five board members and any other interested members attend.

The games room at our Monthly Meetings opens at about 6:00 PM for any early-arrivers and game enthusiasts; most people start arriving around 7:00 PM.

The general meeting usually begins at 7:30 PM with announcements from our Local Secretary, followed by a guest who speaks on an interesting topic for about an hour. After the speaker presentation, our hospitality volunteers provide an assortment of party food and beverages, and people browse and mingle. Conversation and games continue into the night.

Babysitting is available in a separate room for children 3 through 8 from 7:30 to 10:30 PM at a cost of $10.00 per child. The Gifted Children's Coordinators have enrichment activities planned for the children during that time, with a quiet period at the end to allow them to head for home in a calm manner.

At recent meetings members have played their favorite games such as Chess, Scrabble, Set, and Boggle, as well as current hit games like Puerto Rico and Blokus. Our game collection is pretty extensive, so if you have a favorite, there's a fair chance we'll have it on hand.

Usually about 60-100 people attend the Monthly Meeting. If you prefer a smaller group, try a "Games and Conversation" event, or one of our many restaurant gatherings hosted at various locations throughout the metropolitan area. The December 2009 admission prices will be discounted by $2 to encourage attendance at the new venue.
